Variety of kale native to Galicia: Coella da Mariña (Brassica oleracea L. var. acephala)
Coella da Mariña is a variety of kale that allows its use for both human and forage consumption. It is a very productive variety with high nutritional value due to its high content of antioxidants and glucosinolates, known for their beneficial effects on health.

The market demands plant varieties that are resistant to diseases, stresses, climate change, etc., as well as the recovery of native varieties that are being lost due to lack of use and maintenance. Furthermore, the conservation and improvement of plant varieties contributes to the maintenance of biodiversity.

Coella da Mariña is a variety of kale native to the province of Lugo. It has great culinary interest and high nutritional value due to its high content of antioxidant compounds and glucosinolates.
It is a very productive variety with mixed use of the crop: horticultural (more tender leaves) and forage. It is suitable for planting in spring and autumn cycles. Its production cycle is early to medium and its flowering cycle is late.
Due to its great rusticity, it adapts to a great diversity of environments.
