Service description
TEM: EELS (Electron Energy Loss Spectroscopy)
The EELS technique analyzes the energy losses of transmitted electrons due to inelastic interactions with the specimen. Information about the elemental composition and the local electronic structure can be obtained. The TEM is equipped with a Gatan Imaging Filter (GIF Quantum SE) which allows the acquisition of EELS spectra on a 2kx2k CCD detector. The ultimate energy resolution from the FWHM of the elastic peak is 0.65 eV. This equipment allows analysis of selected areas, as well as point, line and spectrum-image analysis with high lateral resolution using the STEM mode. Also an integrated Dark Field annular detector is available. The EELS spectra are recorded over 2048 channels and the energy dispersion (from 0.05 to 1 eV/channel) as well as the GIF entrance aperture (2.5 or 5 mm) can be tuned to optimize the experimental conditions.
