PIF2024 - Migration and/or education? A Century of Life-course Strategies in Spain, 1923-2026 (PID2023-153176NB-I00)
We invite applications from excellent candidates with a strong interest in the field of sociology, politics and economic history for a 4-year full time PhD fellowship starting in January 2025 (tentative) to develop a doctoral dissertation at the IPP (CSIC) as part of the research project: ‘Migration and/or education? A Century of Life-course Strategies in Spain, 1923-2026 (MIX-EDUC-MIG)’ funded by the Spanish State Research Agency (Reference: PID2023-153176NB-I00). The PhD project will be supervised by Dulce Manzano and Hector Cebolla (CSIC, IPP and IEGD).
This research project aims to explore the interconnected roles of education and migration in shaping individual wellbeing and social mobility in Spain over a century, from 1923 to 2026. The research addresses three key questions. Firstly, the project seeks to understand how the combination of education and geographic mobility impacts wellbeing and social mobility. Secondly, the project aims to investigate how both individual and contextual characteristics influence the adoption of these combined strategies. Lastly, the study will explore which combinations of education and migration are most effective in ensuring wellbeing and social mobility across different time periods. This includes both intergenerational and intragenerational social mobility, as well as wellbeing defined in terms of life goals, wealth, family formation, employment, and health.
