JAEPRE23 -47: Mapping Galaxy Evolution: Spatially Resolving Dust, Gas, and Star Formation with the James Webb Space Telescope

The extragalactic group at the Centro de Astrobiología in Madrid invites applicants for a PhD position on the project "Mapping Galaxy Evolution with JWST" supervised by Dr. Irene Shivaei. The group has access to rich datasets from the James Webb Space Telescope (JWST), from various large surveys, and focuses on observational studies of galaxy evolution throughout cosmic time. We are looking for a highly motivated student with an astrophysics background interested in understanding galaxy evolution and formation at high redshifts. Candidates with some experience in the following areas are highly encouraged to apply: computer programing, photometric and spectroscopic data reduction, and galaxy morphological analyses. The successful candidate is expected to work primarily with observational data and develop techniques to study the morphology and spatial maps of different galaxy components. Additionally, the successful candidate is expected to participate in departmental events such as seminars and journal clubs, attend international meetings and workshops, and if needed, go to observing runs. The successful candidate will be integrated into various international collaborations. We seek a candidate who is committed to an inclusive and collaborative academic environment.
