Alejandro Nieto García

Much of his work has focused on Administrative Law and the History of the Civil Service in Contemporary Spain. He wrote numerous papers in his areas of specialisation, and various essays focusing on academia and the judicial world.

His knowledge of government stems from his belonging to the technical branch of the Civil Administration Corps (1959), from where he was appointed to the Chair of Administrative Law (1965). Within the field of law, he gained his experience in particular from working as a practising lawyer for seven years, and from his membership of the Central Electoral Board for three terms.

He was Professor of Administrative Law at the Universities of La Laguna, Autónoma de Barcelona and Alcala de Henares. He was also Vice Chancellor at all of them and Dean of the Faculties of Law and Economics at the Autonomous University of Barcelona.  
Winner of the National Essay Prize in 1997.

He was awarded honorary doctorates by the University Carlos III of Madrid (1995) and the National University of Buenos Aires.

He holds the CSIC Silver Medal (1998).
