Laura Maria Bassi
Daughter of an attorney, born in Bologna in 1711. Considered a child prodigy, she was educated by Dr. Tacconi, medicine professor. In 1733 she got her doctorate in Philosophy in Bologna University (second woman who obtained a doctorate, the first one being Elena Cornaro in 1678), what allowed her to officially teach in university.
She published several works related with Descartes and Newton theories. She married with physicist G. Veratti, with whom she had eight sons.
She worked in electromagnetism. At 65, she won The Experimental Physicist chair. She was the first Physicist professor in Europe. She passed away in 1778.
