Technical ceramics group

The group develops its activity in the field of advanced ceramics for technological applications, in particular, for those requiring conditions of high temperature, corrosive atmosphere, wear and abrasion environments and /or mechanical stresses. These circumstances occur in diverse fields, such as transportation (automotive and aviation), production and storage of energy and catalysis. The subjects include composite materials and 3D structures by direct ink writing. Within the composite materials, mainly non-oxide ceramic matrices with additions of graphitic phases (multilayer and few layers graphene, and graphene oxide) are studied looking for effective reinforcement and, at the same time, additional functionalities (electrical, thermal and tribological). Regarding 3D structures, the same types of materials are studied, including fully graphitic architectures.
