MOVEMENT DISORDERS

Parkinson’s disease (PD) is the most frequent neurodegenerative disorder worldwide after Alzheimer's disease. Our group research lines are related to clinical and etiopathogenic aspects of PD. Thus, our purpose is the development of the knowledge of PD etiology and prognostic factors/biomarkers of the PD-related cognitive decline or treatment complications. The clinical research field has sought the characterization of biochemical, molecular, phenotypic and neuroimaging biomarkers involved in movement disorders, specially PD.Our research activity in the field of genetics has focused on the characterization of genetic biomarkers to study the pathophysiological mechanisms underlying PD.Research activity in our neurophysiology section has focused on the study of the neurobiological mechanisms underlying cognitive decline in PD. The Neuroimaging section complements the research on PD and other movement disorders by adding a neuroanatomic perspective to neurophysiologic and genetic fin
