Biomolecular Interactions and Structural Glycobiology

The Biomolecular Interactions and Structural Glycobiology Group of the Instituto de Investigaciones Químicas investigates the Structural Chemistry of Biomolecular Recognition, with the mission to facilitate an atomic resolution understanding of biologically relevant biomolecular interactions, as well as of the non-covalent interactions responsible for the structural and functional properties of biomaterials, from a structural and dynamic point of view. Special attention is given to: (i) biomolecular interactions and biomaterials involving glycans (structural glycobiology) and (ii) development of spectroscopic and computational methodologies to characterise low affinity biomolecular interactions of relevance in the early stages of Fragment Based Drug Discovery (FBDD). To this end, the laboratory generates novel biophysical approaches based on NMR and computational techniques.
