Bio-Organometallic Chemistry Group

Our group deals with the synthesis of new organometallic frameworks having natural products in their structures. The aim of this research is both, to develop new synthetic methodology, as well as obtain, in an efficient manner, organic and organometallic compounds with well defined physiochemical properties. Very recently (september 2021) we have started a new research project directed to the development of new compounds having antibacterial activities. These compounds will be based in beta-lactam systems containing transition metal complexes in their structures and hybrids metal-beta-lactam (including penicillins, cephalosporins, carbapenem, carbacefem, and tribactamas) in which the metallic complex possesses intrinsic antibacterial activity. Additionally, we will develop beta-lactam based macrocycles and metalla-macrocycles mimicking conventional antibiotics like vancomycins and ionophores. The main focus, that defines the methodological approaches to be used, is diversity.
