Service description
The service provides support to internal (CSIC) and external, public and private applicants. The applicant should contact the service, which will evaluate the best strategy to obtain the animal model needed for the objectives required. After this evaluation, the applicant will be provided with information on the costs of the service that the user must accept before starting the work.
The Service has an authorized project in accordance with RD 53/2013 to carry out the microinjection procedure but the applicant must confirm in writing that it is in possession of the corresponding authorized project to use the model generated by the service for its subsequent characterization in accordance with the aforementioned RD 53/2013.
The service uses embryos of the B6D2JRccHsd or B6JRccHsd strains. The cost of the animal will depend on the strain and will be included in the final budget provided to the applicant attending to the price of the internal maintenance of the strains in our animal house. Other genetic backgrounds can be used if requested by the user, although an additional cost will be charged.
For additive transgenesis, the applicant must provide the transgene or mutation vector and a fine-tuned genotyping strategy. The service is committed to the injection of a minimum of 300 embryos. The service offers the possibility to carry out genotyping of the founders from primers provided by the applicant at an additional cost. The service does not guarantee number of founders, nor transmission or expression of the construct.
In targeted mutagenesis, the service offers the possibility of generating KO, KI and conditional models by gene editing (CRISPR/Cas9) only to CSIC users due to the current patent of the technology.
