Service description
The service menu is defined as accurate machining with chip removal and is performer at IFCA workshop. This service menu is performed within the scope of the ISO 9001 certification at IFCA. The usual material worked with in the workshop is aluminum, but also cooper, brass, bronze and plastic materials like methacrylate and polycarbonate have been machined. Steel and stainless have been machined too less often but without any problem, and the workshop has the capacity to work with other materials.
There are two equipments to give the service menu, a three axis Hartford CNC milling machine model SMC-5, and a XYZ CNC lathe model Compact Turn 52. Hartford milling machine allow to perform typical machining operations (milling, bloom, boring, screw,..) . The machining with Harford milling machine can be done using clamping jaws or attaching the piece directly into the machine table. Using the clamping jaws set machining part maximum dimensions to 200 mm x 150mm x 50 mm, but reduces machining time and final product tolerances. With clamping jaws we reach an accuracy below 25 microns, and if it is needed it can be reached an accuracy below 10 microns for some dimensions. When we clamp the piece directly to the machine table, we can work with pieces of size up to 450mm x 350 mm x 50 mm. In this case more time is needed for part preparation and positioning, and the reached accuracy is a little bit lower (between 30-50 microns) depending on the operations to be made and part clamping method.
With respect to the two axes XYZ CNC lathe, it is able to make all basic turning machining operations. The principal specifications of this equipment are a maximum turning diameter of 200 mm and a maximum turning length of 260 mm. The accuracy normally reached with this machine is below 25 microns and if needed is possible to get an accuracy below 15 microns. With this turning machine we are only able to make boring and screw operations in the turning center. But if necessary, bore and screw out of turning center can be done using Hartford milling machine.
Also we can combine the capabilities of both Hartford milling machining and XYC lather in order to manufacture parts using machining operations from both CNCs. In this case the tolerances of operations made with each machine would be the same as defined before. The problem could be the relative positioning when moving from one machine to the other which could increase the machining tolerance. But if the operations are referenced using a dial gauge the final tolerance will be very near to the ones obtained with the machining with each equip.
