Juana Bellanato Fontecha

Studied Chemical Sciences in Universidad Complutense de Madrid and did her doctoral thesis in Instituto de Óptica Daza de Valdés, under the direction of Dr. José R. Barceló, in Professor Miguel A. Catalán Department, who sponsored this thesis.

Her work has been fundamentally carried out in Infrared Spectroscopy field and Raman-Lasser, applied to different problems of scientific interest, medical, pharmaceutical and industrial. Since 1975 and 1979 she was in charge of Molecular Spectra Section and Molecular Spectroscopy Laboratory, and since 1979 and 1990 chief of Molecular Spectra Unit of Instituto de Óptica. Since 1985 to 1988 she was president of Spectroscopy Committee and vice-president of Spanish Spectroscopy Group, which later chaired between 1990 to 1995. 

During her career, she has been a reference for important groups of spectroscopies and has received important awards. In 1968 she obtained, with professor A. Hidalgo, the Perkin Elmer Prize for the best work on Absorption Spectroscopy.  In 2002, the silver medal of Sociedad Española de Óptica. In 2003 the medal of Real Sociedad Española de Química. In 2006, she received Jesús Morcillo Rubio prize of Reunión Nacional de Espectroscopia and in the same year the CSIC institutional plate. Finally, on November 2007 she received the Insignia de Oro y Brillantes of Asociación de Químicos of Madrid – ANQUE.
