CMyC mission and composition

On 30th September 2002 the Governing Board of the Spanish National Research Council, with a favourable report from the Scientific Advisory Committee and on the proposal of its President, Rolf Tarrach, approved the creation of the Women and Science Committee

Mission of the Women and Science Committee

In collaboration with the Presidency, the Committee aims to achieve gender equality in research at the CSIC.

Objectives of the Women and Science Committee

  • To advise the CSIC Presidency on issues related to promoting access and subsequent career promotion of women scientists at the Institution.
  • To propose possible actions to foster the access and promotion of women at the CSIC, in accordance with specific legislation on this matter.
  • To study the possible causes hindering both the access and career progress of women at the CSIC.
  • To analyse the existence of historical biases and gaps in the undertaking of science due to the deficit of women in scientific institutions and in their management bodies and to propose, where appropriate, corrective measures.

Responsibilities of the Women and Science Committee

  • To produce an Annual Report with sex-disaggregated statistics.
  • To monitor the results of open access and internally promoted scientific staff positions.
  • To enhance the visibility of the Institution's female scientists.
  • To monitor and make recommendations on non-sexist language.
  • To participate with the CSIC Equality Commission in the preparation and monitoring of Equality Plans.
  • To participate in the inclusion of the gender dimension and content in research.
  • To participate and collaborate in the creation and achievement of the CSIC Equality Seal.
