Posttranslational modification of proteins

The posttranslational modification of proteins is a key mechanism for the regulation of their activity by biological mediators, including lipids and reactive species, drugs and toxins. We are interested in the structural and functional characterization of novel types of posttranslational modifications, the identification of their protein targets, and the study of their role in essential biological processes, molecular pathophysiology and drug action. Our group has identified novel roles of protein isoprenylation and palmitoylation and lipoxidation, novel targets of cyclopentenone prostaglandins with therapeutic interest. Recently, we have also unveiled novel roles of lipoxidation targets, in particular intermediate filament proteins, in basic biological processes such as intracellular traffic and cell division. These activities have yielded publications, PhD Thesis and patents. We participate in national (RETIC) and international collaborations (H2020, COST Actions, F. Caixa).
