Physical and Technological Oceanography

The Physical and Technological Oceanography group is the largest research group at the Institute of Marine Sciences, clearly aiming at a collaborative critical mass. It is also the group with the largest scientific production in physical oceanography in Spain. Its interests focus on the observation and analysis of the ocean physical environment at a broad range of spatio-temporal scales, and on the study of the role of the ocean on the Earth system. Its members include mostly physicists, engineers, and oceanographers with complementary skills, working coordinately over very diverse themes with a common objective of advancing in our understanding of the ocean dynamics, combining experimental, numerical and theoretical approaches, as well as new data analysis and observational technologies (both in situ and remote). The group members are notably committed to mentoring students and offering specialized courses, as well as participating in numerous public outreach activities.
