Epigenetic control by the Polycomb Group of genes

The Polycomb system constitutes a major chromatin regulator of embryonic cell specification and cell homeostasis. Although not well understood mechanistically, in adult tissues it acts coordinating the transcriptional programs and proliferation of the variety of cell progenitors that underlie the renewal of adult tissues. Hence, that their impact on aberrant, oncogenic processes merits searching for opportunities of therapeutic intervention/amelioration based on a better knowledge of their activities.
