Biomolecules in Planetary Exploration

Multidisciplinary group with biologists, chemists, engineers, technicians and students of different levels (training, Ph.D., degree) whose goal is to understand the metabolic potential and the preservation of molecular biomarkers (in space and time) in terrestrial environments analog to those found in other planetary bodies. A transdisciplinary approach will bring us to an integrative vision about the habitability of planets, as well as the preservacion of molecular biomarkers. The experimental approach is based on the study of the material and biological information both in situ (field campaigns) and in the laboratory, its preservation and interaction with the physical environment, the identification of molecular biomarkers, and the development of methodologies and instrumentation for their in situ detection.
