Service description

This service contemplates the characterization of the main classes of lipids (polar and neutral) and their different subclasses, by means of high performance thin layer chromatography (HPTLC). A double development method is used that allows the fractionation of phospholipids, monoglycerides, diglycerides, cholesterol, free fatty acids, triglycerides and wax and cholesterol esters. The different fractions are visualized by charring and chromatographically quantified after densitometric analysis. Once the lipid classes of the samples have been characterized, the service offers the methodological possibility of recovering the fractions for the analysis of their fatty acid profiles by gas chromatography. Conventional thin layer chromatography (TLC) and subsequent elution of the fractions is used for this purpose. This analysis is carried out from a total lipid extract.
