JAEPRE23 -68: Structure and Dynamics of Heteromeric Amyloid Fibers Involved in Immune Response Studied by Solid-State NMR
Our research group is dedicated to uncovering the molecular details behind a variety of supramolecular assemblies. We explore how proteins aggregate during liquid-liquid phase separation and homo- and heteromeric amyloid assembly, both in diluted phases and in biomolecular condensates transitioning from liquids to solids. We also investigate the influence of lipids in these processes through an integrative approach combining advanced NMR techniques, both in solution and solid-state, complemented by hyperpolarization schemes and a wide range of computational methods.
In this predoctoral project, the candidate will combine computational and experimental approaches, focusing on the study of the structure and dynamics of amyloid fibrils involved in the immune response and neurodegenerative diseases using a unique combination of solid-state and solution NMR spectroscopy. This approach has allowed us to achieve significant results in elucidating protein assembly mechanisms and liquid-solid phase transitions in the context of biomolecular condensates and amyloids. Now, we seek to increase the complexity level by studying heteromeric amyloid fibers to understand their role in the immune response, as well as their structural transitions from condensates to hydrogels and fibers.
