PIF2024 - Improvement of plant phosphorous nutrition and thermotolerance: Identification of new molecular mechanisms and BioSolutions (IPTher) (PID2023-146528OB-I00)

IPTher: An Interdisciplinary Proposal for Advancing Plant Research IPTher is an interdisciplinary research proposal that brings together experts in molecular biology, plant nutrition, phenotyping, and fungi/bacteria biology. Collaborating with an agro-company, our goal is to enhance our understanding of how plants manage growth and production under the combined stresses of nutrient limitation (or low fertilization) and high temperatures. By addressing these challenges, IPTher aims to improve plant phosphorous nutrition and thermotolerance—critical areas for shaping the future of agriculture. We are currently seeking a highly motivated young researcher to join the Center for Plant Biotechnology and Genomics (CBGP), a Severo Ochoa center known for its cutting-edge facilities and supportive scientific environment. Proficiency in English and biocomputational skills are essential for this position. The selected candidate will focus on elucidating the molecular mechanisms and roles of epigenetics in plant responses to heat stress and phosphorus (Pi) starvation. Specifically, they will analyze epigenetic changes that allow for the specific activation of stress-responsive genes in a genome context regulated by DNA methylation. Our interdisciplinary approach will involve techniques such as DNA methylation analysis, RNA sequencing (RNA-seq), ATAC-seq (assay for transposase-accessible chromatin with sequencing), ChIP-seq, and genetic tools.
