JAEPRE23-45: Short Peptide Induced Gelation of Electrostatically Charged Supramolecular Assemblies

Combined computational/experimental project focused on developing short peptide sequences to control nanostructure interactions, gelation, and superstructure formation, aiming to optimize their use as tissue regeneration scaffolds and other applications. The balance of computational and experimental work will be tailored to the candidate's interests. Our research integrates experimental and computational methods to design, understand, and optimize supramolecular peptide assemblies (SPAs). We have previously optimized artificial extracellular matrices for tissue regeneration, achieving notable results in stem cell differentiation and spinal cord regeneration. We aim to develop short peptide co-assemblers (SPCs) able to fine-tune SPA’s surface and structural features to control interfilamentous interactions, essential for scaffolds in tissue regeneration and other applications like catalysis. The candidate does not require previous knowledge but must have a willingness to learn and work on a multidisciplinary project. Throughout the program, the candidate will receive comprehensive training in all necessary computational and experimental topics, supported by the supervisor, group members, resources at CFM, UPV-EHU, and CSIC, and the attendance to international workshops and conferences. This PhD project aims to help the candidate acquire the skills needed to independently guide their own research, ensuring a well-rounded and fulfilling academic experience.
