PRE2023- Logic-based Methods for Inconsistency Management in Explainable Intelligent Systems (PID2022-139835NB-C21)

The Artificial Intelligence Research Institute (IIIA) belongs to the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC). It is a leading research centre in AI in Spain and Europe, maintaining a fair balance between basic research and applications. The IIIA scientists have expertise in many areas of Artificial Intelligence, including machine learning, knowledge representation, multi-agent systems, agreement technologies, natural language processing, reasoning, optimisation, and semantics. The IIIA pays particular attention to training PhD students and technology transfer. Since 1987, the IIIA have supervised more than 100 PhD students. The IIIA is organised in three research groups: multi-agent systems, learning systems and logic & reasoning. In particular, the IIIA research group of "Logic and Reasoning" centers its activity around logical and mathematical modelling of reasoning, with special attention to mathematical fuzzy logic, uncertainty models, logics for incomplete information and computational argumentation, and the design of efficient algorithms for solving satisfaction and optimization problems by methods based on SAT, constraints and metaheuristics. Very recently, members of the group have got the project LINEXSYS (Logic-based Methods for Inconsistency Management in Explainable Intelligent Systems) funded by the Agencia Española de Investigación (AEI). In the frame of this project, the group offers a 4-year PhD position to work on reasoning models.
